Bloops: From A&E Home Entertainment, Vintage World Series Films on DVD

As a kid, I absolutely wore out the VHS copies of World Series highlight films my dad had bought me at various yard sales, so I'm really happy to see this: A&E Home Entertainment has partnered with MLB to produce team-specific World Series Film collections on DVD, available for purchase at MLB.com. Each DVD features four full-length highlight films from the team's history; right now, the cities being offered are Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York. They sent me a copy of the Phillies highlights (in honor of S-R being a Philly-based company), and I was impressed with the quality of the digitally-preserved versions, especially the 1950 highlight of the Phils and Yankees. Priced at $19.99, these make a great gift for fans, especially ones (like me) who watched the old VHS copies until they would play no more.

I'm assuming you mean the White Sox, right? Video cameras were invented some time in the '30s I think, so I can't imagine they could fill a whole DVD with Cubs WS footage.

I've seen action footage of Walter Johnson early in his career somewhere along the line, so maybe these things do exist for 1908. Besides, it's WS footage, not WS-winning footage. The Cubs have many more appearances in the Big Dance than do the Sox. Or maybe it's a city DVD, not team?

I believe the film series started in 1943, and if I recall correctly, the original had a message from Babe Ruth to the troops. My hometown library had the whole series.
So that would mean Chicago would have the Cubs and Sox, St. Louis would have the Cards and Browns, and if they do Boston, it would have the Sox and Braves, while Milwaukee would have the Braves and Brews.

I've had that Phillies one for a while now. Maybe MLB.com is promoting these as something new but it's existed for at least a few years now.
