Bloops: Truck Day 2010

Posted by Neil Paine on February 13, 2010

With snow blanketing approximately 100% of the country, Spring Training and Opening Day seem so far away... But that didn't stop the Red Sox from loading up their gear in an 18-wheeler Friday and sending it down to Fort Myers, FL, which of course means we can officially start to get excited about the prospect of a new season. From here, the action only picks up -- pitchers & catchers report next week, position players arrive the week after that, and Spring Training finally begins the first week of March. Given the wintry weather outside my window today, I think I can speak for everyone and say that it can't come soon enough.

I have to confess being a lot more interested in pitchers & catchers reporting than in the Olympics. And I'll certainly be a lot more interested in the ongoing events of spring training than in March Madness, men's or women's. And a lot more interested in Opening Day than in the Masters.

So it's the Chinese Year of the Tiger. Mentioning the Masters reminds me that it's Detroit that comes to mind when I hear the word "Tiger", not some golfer who has a lot of girlfriends. And also LSU for Skip Bertman's and Paul Byrd's sport, Clemson for Kris Benson's sport, University of Missouri for Ian Kinsler's sport, Princeton for Moe Berg's and pitcher Chris Young's sport (actually, Young played two sports, so here I mean the sport in he has been able to play professionally), and Towson State University for Chris Nabholz' sport, to name a few other "Tigers" of interest.
