The China Baseball League, the youngest of the four major leagues in Asia, began in 2002 as a four-team league and has since expanded to six clubs. Its best players also play for the China national team, coached since 2003 by former Major Leaguers Jim Lefebvre and Bruce Hurst. In 2005 a group of CBL all-stars won the bronze medal in the Asia Series by defeating heavily-favored South Korea. Present CBL teams are the Beijing Tigers, Tianjin Lions, Guangdong Leopards, Shanghai Eagles, Sichuan Dragons and Hopestars.
